University of Virginia’s College at Wise, August 2023 – May 2024

Year in Wise program | 3.914 GPA

  • Rewrote the Honor Constitution to prioritize faster case processing, increased student protections, and lessened ambiguity in a collaborative effort as part of my work as Assistant Advocate on the Honor Court.
  • Engaged with College leadership on multiple occasions, including being invited on the UVA legislative advocacy trip and to present to the Board of Visitor’s Committee on the College at Wise.
  • Awarded Appalachian Fellows distinction in recognition of my dedication to extracurricular learning.
  • Dedicated over 200 hours working as Lighting Designer for spring play.

  • Participate in the Commonwealth Housing Coalition, helping guide its statewide legislative agenda while focusing on recruitment of new member organizations; contacted 25+ potential organizations, with a focus on underrepresented areas.
  • Guide the organization’s future, focusing especially on advocacy and membership recruitment and retention.
  • Organize and delegate campaigns around specific policy priorities. Currently leading Transit Funding & Commonwealth Housing Coalition campaigns.
  • Manage our social media presence, including content creation.

Local advocacy

  • Involved in local government work, including being invited to Henrico County’s Student Government Day; working as an election page then an election official; and providing comments at public meetings, to representatives, and to local administrative agencies.
  • Collaborate at varying levels with many local organizations, including Bike Walk RVA, RVA YIMBY, RVA Rapid Transit, Richmond Community Climate Action, and PlanRVA, and folks in many local governments.

Local media and research

  • Regularly contribute to Wikipedia on various Richmond-related subjects, including writing the former 27,000 word series of articles on the Richmond water crisis.
  • Researched the proposed Richmond-Henrico merger of the late 1960s and early 1970s by completing a 4,000 word research paper.

  • Attended and reported on 25+ regional public meetings and created the Richmond Region Public Meetings Calendar.
  • Wrote multiple drafts of a report on the potential for a Richmond region water authority.
